SPECIAL EXHIBITION – DERBY WOMEN

This year’s special exhibition celebrates the remarkable women of the Derby family through the centuries, featuring captivating paintings and stories. Discover the iconic Lady Margaret Beaufort, who married the 1st Earl after being previously wed to the Earl of Richmond and giving birth to Henry Tudor, later Henry VII. Explore the legacy of Charlotte de La Trémoille, the esteemed wife of the 7th Earl, and her heroic defense of Lathom House during the 1644 parliamentary siege. Learn about Eliza Farren, the second wife of the 12th Earl, who rose to fame as a celebrated comic actress, securing her place in history.

The current Countess of Derby, Caroline Stanley, is married to Edward Stanley, the 19th Earl of Derby. She has produced engaging podcasts, documentaries, and history talks. Her seven-episode podcast series delves into the Derby family’s six centuries of history, filled with riveting drama, intrigue, politics, war, socio-economic changes, culture, and art.
