Our Head Housekeeper Gail talks about what it's like to care for a stately home as grand as Knowsley Hall
What do you most enjoy about working at Knowsley Hall?
Every day is a school day, there is never a day the same as the day you’ve had or the day ahead. I love my team and feel we have come a long way since I joined. Each morning when opening the shutters of the State rooms I am in complete awe of how magical and beautiful the Knowsley estate is. Having such a varied calendar of events allows me to see the Hall transform into a different place each time whether it be for a Private Stay or wedding.
What have you had to learn when joining Knowsley Hall compared to other places you have worked?
Learning about the amazing history behind the Hall and all about the Derby Collection and how to clean and take care of all the fabulous antiques.
What’s the best thing about working at Knowsley Hall?
I think it has to be working with an amazing team, not just in Housekeeping but everyone within the Hall, we are just like one big family! Every time I drive through the huge gates of the Estate it always takes my breath away, it’s like entering another world.
Most important element of your job?
Guest satisfaction is always at the forefront of my mind, ensuring that guests have a safe, comfortable and memorable stay. It also has to be making sure that my team are happy and enjoy coming to work.
What is your favourite bedroom?
It has to be Lady Victoria’s with it’s beautiful purple wallpaper. It always looks so fresh with amazing views of the skyline of Liverpool. The bathroom is stunning too with a roll top bath and stand alone shower.
What is your favourite room?
It has to be the Walnut Drawing room. It just feels like walking back in time with amazing views from every window and during winter it looks magical with the fires lit.
