It is the attention to detail that really makes a Christmas lunch and perhaps one of the unsung heroes of the day are the humble pigs in blankets. They are simple to prepare and they can be served before the main meal, as part of Christmas lunch or in the evening. With such a versatile product, it is worth getting them right and your guests will appreciate the effort this Christmas. These can be prepared in advance and stored in the fridge, ready to go in the oven.
- Chipolata sausages
- Streaky bacon
Really simple to make but given time is precious at Christmas, there are things you can do to speed things up in the kitchen. Pigs in blankets can be made in advance, store them in the fridge and they are ready for the oven the next day.
You’ll want to set yourself up as a little production line, lay out strips of streaky bacon and cut each one in the centre. Add a chipolata sausage to each one and then roll. Where the bacon ends, skewer them. You can fit two or three on each skewer, pop onto a lined baking tray and they’re ready for the storing in the fridge or straight in the oven.
Once cooked they can make a lovely starter or be served with Christmas lunch. Quick, simple and tasty.
